The Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR), hosted by the Centre for Coastal Management, University of Ghana Cape Coast, Ghana, and established under the World Bank Africa Centre of Excellence (ACE) for Development Impact Project, invites suitably qualified national, regional, and international applicants to its MPhil and PhD degree programs.

ACECoR’s primary purpose is to support the technical capacity development of young African professionals to address challenges of coastal degradation, as well as to promote the sustainable exploitation and management of marine and coastal assets in the subregion. To ensure a multi- and multidisciplinary approach to addressing coastal deterioration across the sub-region, ACECoR will conduct out teaching and research initiatives in conjunction with academic institutions and industry at the national, regional, and international levels. ACECoR’s specific goals are as follows:

1. Enhance capabilities of young African scholars in the thematic areas of Coastal Geomorphology and Engineering, Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation, Disaster Risk Management and Migration, Ecosystems and Biodiversity Science and Blue Economy, Governance and Social resilience.
2. Provide demand-driven applied research data and innovation for relevant industries and sectors in the above themes.
3. Develop regional data support systems on marine and coastal issues. Create multi-sectoral networks for marine and coastal for an integrated approach to resolving coastal degradation in West Africa.
4. Provide career development for faculty through an international exchange programme and in-service training.

Applicants should be aware that the ACECoR scholarship will primarily focus on the new Blue Economy, Governance, and Social Resilience programs for the 2022/2023 academic year, with very limited scholarships available for the Integrated Coastal Zone Management, Oceanography and Limnology, and Fisheries Science programs.
