Job Summary: As a Finance Officer at AWDF, you will contribute to the financial management objectives of the organization in alignment with our strategy. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate financial reports and practices, including cash management, payroll, budgeting, audits, and financial disbursement. Additionally, you will play a crucial role in conducting due diligence for grantee partners.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct due diligence processes to assess, mitigate, and manage the risk of financial fraud and mismanagement among selected grantee organizations, in collaboration with the Finance Manager and the Finance Officer – Due Diligence.
  2. Carry out field visits to selected grant recipients, validating and verifying the data submitted, and addressing any identified gaps.
  3. Review financial reports submitted by grant recipients for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with grant conditions. Recommend follow-up actions as needed.
  4. Collaborate with the Resourcing department to address finance-related issues of grantees and provide financial management technical support.
  5. Ensure accurate recording and posting of all transactions in the Sun Systems accounting software.
  6. Monitor bank balances, prepare investment schedules, and reconcile balance sheet accounts.
  7. Process monthly payroll, including verification of payments due and maintaining payroll records.
  8. Assist the Finance Manager in preparing budgets for the annual workplan and funding applications to donors.
  9. Collaborate with the communications, programs, partnership, and philanthropy teams as needed.
  10. Uphold AWDF’s values and principles, including a feminist ethos, equality, teamwork, and positive interactions with diverse stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • First Degree (or equivalent) in accounting, finance, or a related discipline, plus an intermediate-level professional accountancy qualification.
  • At least 5 years of work experience in a finance department, preferably in grant-making or civil society organizations.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English is required. Proficiency in French is an advantage.

Salary Range: USD 23,642 – 41,374 per year (midpoint: USD 32,508 per year)
