Organizational Setting:

The Regional Office for Africa (RAF) is responsible for leading FAO’s response to regional priorities for food security, agriculture, and rural development. As a Programme Assistant, you will play a vital role in coordinating specialized and complex processes and activities to ensure the successful implementation of the division’s work programme. Your contributions will directly impact the smooth operations and performance of programme and project activities in the region.

Main Purpose:

As a Programme Assistant, your primary responsibility will be to provide coordination and support for the division’s work programme, planning, and budgeting activities. You will monitor and allocate funds, prepare budget reports, and assist budget holders in budget revisions. Your expertise will be crucial in responding to queries, providing procedural guidance, and maintaining accurate records and data for financial analyses and management reports.

Working Relationships:

In this role, you will collaborate closely with colleagues within the division and client departments/offices, ensuring the consistency and quality of programme/project support services. Your excellent communication and teamwork skills will be essential in building effective relationships and facilitating smooth operations.

Minimum Requirements:

To be considered for this position, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Education: Secondary School Education.
  • Experience: Four years of relevant experience in providing programme/projects support services.
  • Languages: Working knowledge (proficient – level C) of English.
  • IT Skills: Good knowledge of MS Office applications, Internet, and office technology equipment.

Desirable Qualifications and Skills:

While not mandatory, the following qualifications and skills would be advantageous:

  • Limited knowledge (intermediate – level B) of French.
  • Finance and Accounting background, with knowledge in budget preparation.
  • Experience in UN administrative procedures/guidelines and financial rules and regulations.
  • Familiarity with FAO corporate systems: Country Office Information Network (COIN), Field Programme Management Information System (FPMIS), Global Resource Management System (GRMS).

Duration and Location:

This is a fixed-term position for one year, with the possibility of extension. The post is located in Accra, Ghana, at the Regional Office for Africa (RAF).
