Orica is excited to announce an opportunity for a dedicated Operator – MMU to join our Africa North business. Reporting to the Lead – Operations Support, this role will involve regular travel to our Africa operations.

As an Operator – MMU, you will be trained and supported to perform duties within our blast crew and eventually operate a Mobile Manufacturing Unit (MMU). The MMU is a highly advanced Heavy Rigid vehicle equipped with the latest technologies and onboard computer systems. It is used to pump explosive products into pre-drilled blast holes at our customer quarry sites.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate and set an example of our key company value: “Safety is our Priority, always,” by acting with integrity and respect at all times.
  • Provide labor-intensive work involved in the preparation and loading of quarry blast patterns.
  • Operate the MMU vehicle and other associated blasting plant and machinery.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance.
  • Work closely with your teammates in a coordinated manner.
  • Assist with the hands-on delivery of explosive products down pre-drilled blast holes on the bench.
  • Provide excellent service to our valued customers.
  • Handle daily administration and customer interactions as required.

Requirements:

  • Possess a current Heavy Rigid (HR) driver’s license.
  • Demonstrate a work history involving physical work outside, in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to pass all required security checks to obtain a Dangerous Goods license.
  • Possess an excellent, positive, and team-based attitude, prioritizing the well-being of your colleagues.
  • Basic mechanical comprehension is advantageous, but not essential.
